The ancients of the previous worlds discovered this power and wreaked havoc with it, leading to the creation of the Sorrow. Problems begin when humans discover the Tides and attempt to manipulate them. Tides represent the collective psyche of humanity and in their default state, they are harmonious, allowing for normal human interactions. Tidal surge: A directed push of tidal energy (example: Tol's Curse).Consciousness transfer: the way the Changing God passes his mind from one body to another. The Tides can be manipulated in many ways and with different results: While the Tides are linked to all, a very few (like the Changing God) are aware of their existence, and even fewer know how to control them. For example, someone could be falsely compassionate, but it will still be in the sphere of the Gold Tide. The Tides are linked to action, not intention. A Gold-aligned player might help someone purely for their own benefit. A Silver-aligned player may use their fame to help someone. It should be noted that none of these concepts are as simple as "good" or "evil". These five Tides form the basis of how your actions will be perceived in Torment: Tides of Numenera. It is the Tide of people who seek to influence the lives of others or who actively seek to be remembered. Silver Tide: Represents admiration of power and seekers of fame.It is the Tide of people whose primary goal is to help others, especially at a cost to themselves. Gold Tide: Represents charity, sacrifice, and empathy.It is the Tide of people who view life's difficulties from a broad, global perspective rather than an individual one. Indigo Tide: Represents justice, compromise, and the greater good.It is the Tide of people whose goal is to live in the moment, to experience life to its fullest, or to follow their heart wherever it leads them. Red Tide: Represents passion, emotion, action, and zeal.It is the Tide of people whose goal is to expand the mind and the spirit. Blue Tide: Represents wisdom, enlightenment, and mysticism.Those who acknowledge the Tides have given them symbolic colors based on how they appear to correspond with emotional and psychological reactions: The Tides represent complicated concepts that aren't entirely definable by language.
